Head Injuries Should Never Be Ignored
At Punjab Hospital Lahore, our 24/7 ER team is equipped to provide expert care and immediate medical attention for head injuries. Even minor head injuries can have serious consequences.

Headache

Generally for the treatment of headaches and migraines, patients consult general physicians but sometimes depending on the severity of case, neurosurgeons are also referred. Same is the case with the patients who are suffering from acute sciatica.

Fits

Seizure treatment, often referred to as “fits treatment,” focuses on preventing seizures and managing any underlying causes, and may involve medication, surgery, or other therapiesFor many, medication in the form of anti-seizure medications (ASMs) or anti-epileptic drugs (AEDs) can effectively reduce seizure frequency or even eliminate them. Other treatment options include surgical procedures, device therapy (like Vagus nerve stimulation), and dietary changes like the ketogenic diet.

Brain Hemorrhage

Emergency treatment is needed for cerebral hemorrhage. It usually involves medications and close monitoring in an intensive care unit. In rare cases, surgery may be needed to relieve pressure around the brain.

Brain Infarction

A brain infarction, also known as a cerebral infarction or ischemic stroke, is a condition where brain tissue dies due to a lack of blood flowThis lack of blood flow, or ischemia, is typically caused by a blockage in the blood vessels that supply the brain with oxygen and nutrients.

Brain Tumour

A brain tumor is an abnormal growth of cells within the brain, which can be either benign (non-cancerous) or malignant (cancerous)Symptoms vary depending on the tumor’s location and size, but can include persistent headaches, seizures, nausea, and vision problems. Treatment options depend on the type and grade of the tumor and may include surgery, radiation therapy, and chemotherapy.

Hydrocephalus

Hydrocephalus is a condition where there is an abnormal accumulation of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) in the brain, leading to increased pressure and potential brain damageThis excess fluid can cause the brain’s ventricles (cavities filled with CSF) to enlarge. Hydrocephalus can be present at birth (congenital) or develop later in life (acquired).

Microcephaly

Microcephaly is a condition where a baby’s head is significantly smaller than expected for their age, typically due to abnormal brain developmentIt can be present at birth (congenital) or develop later in infancy. Causes include genetic factors, prenatal infections (like Zika virus), and exposure to harmful substances during pregnancy.

Backache

Backache, or back pain, is a common issue that can stem from various causes, ranging from muscle strains and sprains to more serious conditions like spinal disc problems or even cancerIt can be a dull ache, sharp pain, or even a shooting sensation, and can impact daily

Sciiatica

Sciatica is a painful condition characterized by pain that radiates down the leg, often from the buttock, and can be accompanied by numbness, tingling, or weaknessThis pain follows the path of the sciatic nerve, which is the largest nerve in the body, originating in the lower back and running down each leg.

Menlngocele

A meningocele is a type of spina bifida, a birth defect where a baby’s spine doesn’t close completely during pregnancyIt’s characterized by a sac containing the meninges (the membranes covering the brain and spinal cord) and spinal fluid that protrudes through the opening in the spine, usually covered by skin. The spinal cord itself is not typically included in this sac.

Here’s a more detailed explanation:
    • Spina Bifida:
Spina bifida is a general term for neural tube defects, which occur when the neural tube (the structure that develops into the brain and spinal cord) doesn’t close properly during early pregnancy.

  • Meningocele:
In a meningocele, a sac containing the meninges and spinal fluid pushes through the gap in the vertebrae (bones of the spine).

  • A more severe type of spina bifida is called myelomeningocele, where the spinal cord, along with the meninges and spinal fluid, protrudes through the opening in the spine.

  • Diagnosis:
Meningocele is usually diagnosed during pregnancy through blood tests (alpha-fetoprotein test) or ultrasounds. It can also be identified at birth.

  • Treatment:
A baby born with a meningocele will typically need surgery to put the sac back into the spine and close the opening.
